So why are we doing this? That’s the #1 question, right? The answer is simply: It is a desire God has placed in our hearts.
Even before we were married we knew that our family would be made up of both adopted and biological children. What we didn’t know (or rather, what we didn’t plan) was that the adoption part would come first. The decision to adopt now began earlier this summer (2007) when we decided it was time to expand our family. I was so ready to have children in our home yet the longing I experienced wasn’t for pregnancy and a newborn (although that is certainly a blessing!). But rather what God placed on my heart was the desire for a child who is already here and who is waiting on a forever family.
I remember the first night I talked to Jonathan about how I was feeling. I didn’t know what to expect in return but was elated that he shared in my hopes and joy. Toward the end of the conversation, his words exactly: “What did you think I would say?” Which, taken out of context aren’t too meaningful but in the moment said it all: “Of course.”
So that was the beginning.
And this is our journey…

For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
