What a fun holiday to spend with little girls! I went to big girl's party at school and got to meet all her little friends and some of their parents.
Today has been two weeks since we've had the girls. It seems crazy that they haven't always been here. The transition really has just flowed so smoothly. It's just natural.
I went back to work on Saturday and then again on Monday and Tuesday. My parents and sister are being so helpful with the girls when I have to work on the weekend and I am amazed at how well Jonathan did with them on Monday and Tuesday night by himself (after school, supper, bath, and bed...wow!). The first thing little girl said to me on Tuesday morning was, "Mommy! Daddy can wash hairs!" We are all proud of him:) The girls have made friend with our neighbor's girls (one 9 and one 5). We are enjoying the warm afternoons when we can play outside with them!
I blew up the dryer today. I've apparently done far too much laundry in the past two days. Oops!
I have next week off again (we were supposed to go to Alaska). I'm so SO happy to have that time scheduled off! There is so much to do! School is out on Monday for president's day and Jonathan is off as well so we are all very excited to have that day together. Also next week we have to paint the girls room AND plan big girl's 6th birthday party. It's only a few weeks away!
I'll end with a story that cracks me up every time I think about it. First I'll say that little girl LOVES to watch me put makeup on and ALWAYS wants to put on chap stick or lip gloss. So anyway, we were driving down the road and I heard her making lip smacking noises in the back. I glanced back but was driving so didn't get a good view of things. When we got to a red light I turned around and looked at her and HOLY MOSES! She had lipstick smeared ALL OVER her face. When I told her "No!" and "Little girls DO NOT put on lipstick." She said, "But mommy it was right here beside my seat." Because OF COURSE you should help yourself if it's just sitting right there beside you. Duh.
We are learning. Every. Single. Day. We are learning.
They are precious. God is here and that is evident so often. As I grow to know them...their little personalities and quirks, their fears and thoughts...it breaks my heart to look at pictures of that first night. To see them smiling just because they were asked to. To know they were in a strange house under stressful circumstances. They were so ready, though, to let us love them. I hate, for them, that the road to this place is what it was. But they are here now. They are happy. They are safe. We can't question the means to this end.
They truly make us whole.
